Windows will warn you the first time

Valendo is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen shows a blue panel saying Windows protected your PC. Click More info, then Run anyway. This happens once, on the first install of each version.

macOS needs one command, once per download

The app is not notarised by Apple, so macOS quarantines it and reports that it is damaged. It is not damaged — that is the message macOS shows for anything it has not been asked to check. Drag Valendo to Applications, then run this in Terminal:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Valendo.app

You need to do this again for each new version you download, because the quarantine flag is attached to the downloaded file, not to the app.

What happens after 15 days

Nothing you have made is ever locked away. Opening, editing and saving your projects is never blocked, at any point, licence or no licence — and neither is importing a script or sending the text to a second monitor. A teleprompter that holds your own scripts hostage is not a teleprompter.

What the trial ending does take away is the network page, the phone desk, the image, screen and video cards, presenters, presets, exporting, and every tab past the first. A small mark also appears on the presenter's screen. See Pricing for what each tier includes.

Building from source

Valendo is proprietary software, but the build instructions are public — they are what an Intel Mac owner needs, and what anyone verifying the redistributed ffmpeg needs. See Building from Source and Redistributed ffmpeg.
